Two London protest dates scrapped on police advice, but Westminster protests set to indefinitely con

Black cab drivers protesting in Parliament Square have decided to call off today’s and next Friday's protests following advice from police . Black cab drivers in London have brought the roads in the Westminster area to a standstill over the past five weeks as they continue their ongoing protest against the Mayor of London who they claim plans to ban taxis from driving on key parts of the capital’s road network.

So far both Transport for London and City Hall officials have failed to meet the demands of the organisers by allowing licensed taxis the same access as London’s buses.

Todays protest was cancelled as police expressed concerns as they expect over 5,000 Climate Change protesters, mostly school children, to descend to Parliament Square. The following Friday's protest on 22nd March, was cancelled due to a “Pro Tommy Robinson Demonstration”, which the organisers say may also attract demonstrators from ANTIFA opposition. According to a statement made by the Independent Taxi Alliance the Roads and Transport Police Unit sent a message to the organisers saying: “A really big thank you, as you can imagine this really helps our policing plan and also reduces risk to your drivers. Your assistance on this has been duly noted by our management.” The protests are to continue on Monday, Wednesday and Friday indefinitely until demands are met.
