TfL Commissioner says there is “effective dialogue now in place” with both taxi and private hire ind

London’s transport Commissioner has suggested that there is “effective dialogue now in place” with both taxi and private hire industries following a spate of protests against the capital’s regulators. City Hall Assembly Member Florence Eshalomi asked the commissioner what he was going to do to repair relationships between the two industries.

Eshalomi asked the Transport for London top official: “Relations with some in the taxi and private hire industry seem to have broken down given the recent blockades and strikes happening outside Palestra (Transport for London offices). Can you tell me what you are doing to repair that relationship, please?”

Mike Brown MVO, Commissioner of Transport for London, said: “I meet regularly with the taxi trade senior representatives and I am happy to say that is a constructive dialogue.  We do not always agree with each other on every single issue but there is an effective dialogue now in place, which is really important.  “That, of course, is supported by contacts that the Mayor himself has with the trade.  “I also met not so very long ago with the private hire trade representatives and there probably is an opportunity to do so again because just in the last few days they have written to me asking that I do just that.  “I am more than happy to talk to people at any time.  Dialogue is always the best way to resolve such differences as there are between us.” After ten weeks of protests cab drivers in London have brought the roads in the Westminster area to a standstill over the past five weeks as they continue their ongoing protest against the Mayor of London who they claim plans to ban taxis from driving on key parts of the capital’s road network. The protests are set to continue after the Easter weekend.
