Climate protests are “driving people to use minicabs and other things” says London Mayor
London Mayor Sadiq Khan said the climate protests in the capital are “driving people to use minicabs and other things”. Many of those affected by the disruption caused in London by the Extinction Rebellion protest have claimed the demonstrations are flawed with the London Mayor suggesting the demonstrations are “inadvertently” making people use “minicabs and other things” instead of public transport.
Sadiq Khan told Sky News: “The best way to address the issue of climate change is to encourage people to use public transport or to walk and cycle so inadvertently the protesters are driving people away from public transport to use minicabs and other things,”
As of 5pm on Wednesday 17 April, a total of 340 arrests have been made since Monday. Disruption has on the roads has meant many taxi drivers were forced to take major detours in an attempt to circumvent the protests. Bus routes have also been affected, with many services cancelled or diverted. The protests are now set to take place in Marble Arch under police orders.
