Edinburgh private hire driver attacked by thug armed with a brick
A private hire driver was attacked by a passenger with a brick after attempting to run off without paying his fare.
It was reported in Edinburgh News that the thug had initially ran off without paying, but then returned with a brick, and attacked the private hire drivers vehicle, smashing the windscreen.
34 year old Adeel Khan, from Fountainbridge, was unhurt but left badly shaken by the attack, which occurred in Gracemount on Wednesday, 17 April.
The driver who managed to film the attack on his mobile phone, picked up the thug in Hailes Gardens, Colinton, around 8.30pm and took him to Gracemount Drive.
Mr Khan then asked the passenger for the fare. However, the man then jumped out of the car, and ran to a wall and picked up a brick and slammed it into the drivers bonnet and windscreen.
Mr Khan's was subsequently left with £600 worth of damage to his vehicle, a Seat Toledo.
Mr Khan’s attacker is described as black, with a heavy build and long hair. He was wearing a black jacket, light grey tracksuit bottoms, black trainers and was carrying a blue bag. A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Police in Edinburgh are investigating after a private hire vehicle was subject to a vandalism.
“The incident happened around 8.50pm on Wednesday 17th April in Gracemount Drive. “Inquiries to identify the male responsible are ongoing.”
