Digby the guide horse trained and ready for city life in London
Will guide horses be required to travel in taxis and private hire across the UK?

The UK's first guide horse is chomping at the bit to hit the streets of London as it nears finishing training. Digby, a miniature horse trained by Katy Smith in North Yorkshire, is almost ready to be handed over to Helena Hird who is a partially-sighted woman living and working in the city. Ms Herd chose a guide horse over a dog as horses live and work much longer than their canine colleagues.
The 20-month-old horse was allowed on the Tyne and Wear Metro system in Newcastle, which gave him the opportunity to experience busy city life. Digby wore specially designed “thunderpants” in case of accidents and boots on his hooves according to SkyNews.
In London and most other parts of the UK, all taxis and private hire drivers must not refuse journeys that involve transporting assistance dogs. It is unclear at this time whether horses will form part of that requirement.
