Police called as PHV driver is accused of gender identity discrimination and assault after passenger

Steve Kenton

Police were called after a PHV passenger accused a Southport private hire driver of gender identity discrimination and assault.

20 year old Nardia Allen-Gibson, who identifies as gender fluid and prefers to be referred to as "they" instead of "she," ordered the minicab at approximately 3.30pm on April 30, from private hire firm All White, via an app on their phone, to pick them up from Mojo Barbers, Lord Street, Southport.

Nardia had the registration number and the driver details sent to them via text. They then walked up to the PHV, however an argument ensued after they got into the vehicle.

It is alleged that the driver became rude and aggressive to Nardia, and claims that the driver then said that the minicab wasnt booked for them. After a further verbal altercation they got out of the vehicle.

They have then claimed that the driver wouldn't take them because there was a girls name on the booking system and they do not look like a girl.

Nardia then stated that another group of people got into the PHV, which was still booked on their account, meaning that the booking was also linked to Nardia's bank account.

They then admitted to to kicking the wheel arch of the vehicle as the minicab driver went to pull away with different passengers. Nardia has then alleged that the driver stopped his vehicle amd got out, saying to them "you won't be doing that again" before grabbing them around the throat and dropping them to the pavement.

However the Echo have reported that a spokesperson for All Whites' are disputing Nardias version of events, denying any form of discrimination, claiming that the driver was defending his property, and as a result a counter-accusation has been made to the police.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: "We can confirm officers received a report of assault on Lord Street, Southport on Saturday, 20 April. "Officers are working to piece together the full details of the incident but received an initial report at around 3.30pm of a 20-year-old woman being assaulted on Lord Street, Southport. "Enquiries are at an early stage and officers are examining CCTV from the area and speaking with witnesses to establish what has gone on." Officers would urge anyone who witnessed this incident or who has any information about it to contact @MerPolCC, 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
