Private Hire Driver loses licence after multiple complaints of aggressive and inappropriate behaviou

A private hire driver from Weston-super-Mare has had his licence revoked after complaints about aggressive and inappropriate behaviour. Several complaints were made about the behaviour of PHV driver ErKan Kutuk to North Somerset Council who then made the decision to revoke his licence.

Mr Kutuk appealed the decision at North Somerset Magistrates Court who, after reviewing all evidence, upheld the council’s initial vote to revoke his licence on the grounds of not being a 'fit and proper' person for the job. As reported by the Bristol Live, the council was also awarded costs of £900.

North Somerset Council principal licensing officer Sioux Isherwood said: "We will not tolerate any inappropriate or aggressive behaviour from licensed drivers.

"Drivers are licensed by the council as individuals and work on a self-employed basis for a licensed operator. "This could be UBER, OLA or one of our local firms.

"The licence process, which includes fully enhanced DBS checks, is there to ensure that people using taxis feel safe, secure and comfortable.

"Anything less than this will not be tolerated in the interest of public safety and rogue drivers will be taken off the road.”
