Incorrect road sign causes concerns and confusion for taxi drivers on major London road

A rogue traffic sign caused concern and confusion for London taxi drivers on the iconic Oxford Street. A new blue access sign was erected on the junction of Park Street and Oxford Street, which seemed to exclude taxi access from the shopping district. The new sign showed access only to buses and cyclists which would have excluded access to Selfridges for taxi drivers.

The council and leading industry voices in London however confirmed the sign to be a mistake. Both the Licensed Taxi Drivers’ Association (LTDA) and London Cab Drivers’ Club (LCDC) announced that new signs will be created to include taxis in the near future.

A spokesperson for Westminster Council told TaxiPoint: “The sign pictured was put up incorrectly and has been covered up ahead of replacement.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
