Worried dad tracks down daughter's Uber ride and finds driver in the back seat allegedly sexuall

According to reports, a dad found his daughter being sexually assaulted by an Uber driver after he tracked down the vehicle by using the in-app GPS tracking system.

The alleged attack took place in Baltimore, USA on 1 June, at around 11.30pm.

The report said that the father of the alleged victim became worried about her welfare when she failed to arrive home. Using the app's tracking option, the father tracked the vehicle down and found his 25-year-old daughter in the back of the vehicle and managed to pull her to safety. The report says that the alleged attacker then jumped back into the front seat, exchanged words with the father and then threw an object at him before speeding off.

Uber introduced the family and friends tracking facility to their app in May 2016.

They said via their newsroom: "Whether you have a spouse traveling for work, a daughter heading home from college, or a parent going to a doctor’s appointment — ensuring your loved ones are taken care of when you’re not together extends beyond just covering the cost of a ride.

"That’s why we’re taking Family Profiles one step further with Trip Tracker, a feature that provides automatic notifications and the ability to follow along on the map whenever someone is riding under your Family Profile. "At Uber, we are constantly looking for new ways to use technology to improve safety for riders and drivers. Trip Tracker uses sophisticated technology to bring you peace of mind while your nearest and dearest ride on Uber.

"So, the next time one of your family members is headed out – you’ll know when they are on their way, which route they are taking and when they’ve arrived." Uber have said that the driver has been removed from the app and described the alleged incident as “appalling beyond words.” They have also confirmed that they will be working with the police on their investigation. The Daily Mail reported that an officer with Baltimore County Police Department said that the driver of the Uber vehicle was observed in the back of the vehicle with his alleged victim. He added that more information will be released as the investigation progresses.
