Five London taxis used by charity to give free trips to military veterans to memorials vandalised
It has been reported by LBC that five licensed London taxis, which are used by a charity to give free trips to military veterans to memorial events, have been vandalised.
The Taxi Charity for Military Veterans, a charity which helps World War 2 veterans attend various memorials around the UK and Europe, assisted in transporting Britain’s war heroes to Normandy last week for D-Day commemorations.
The drivers provide the service free of charge and spent a week in France, but on the final day of the trip a number of taxis were vandalised by thugs.
On Friday, five taxis which were parked outside a hotel in Port Le Plaisance in Caen had been targeted, with door mirrors, windscreen wipers and aerials torn off.
Taxi driver Mike Hughes explained that the drivers discovered the damage to their vehicles at the start of the final day.
Thankfully mechanics managed to patch up the damaged vehicles despite the vanadalism.
Although the charity has offered to pay for the repairs to the vehicles, which amounts to approximately £500, both the charity and the drivers believe that the money could be better used to help the war veterans and as a result a Just Giving page has been set up to raise money for the repairs.
