Mother and son attack taxi driver following family night out

A mother and son duo attacked a taxi driver following a family night out in Derby city centre. The court heard how Claire Sharp, 35, and her 18-year-old son Cameron Sharp, physically beat the driver while he was waiting at a taxi rank in Victoria Street. 

A police officer who was nearby came over to break up the fight and was subsequently attacked by another woman who turned out to be Claire Sharp’s sister Melissa Sharp. Both Claire and Cameron Sharp, of Chellaston, were arrested and charged for the attack on the taxi driver, while Melissa Sharp, 36, of Derby, was arrested and charged for the attack on the police officer. 

The three family members appeared at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates Court for the assaults which took place at around 1.45am on Sunday 14 April. As reported in the Derbyshire Live, Claire Sharp was fined £69, ordered to pay £400 compensation, £85 costs and a £30 victim surcharge. Cameron Sharp was handed a two-year conditional discharge and ordered to pay £100 compensation, £85 costs and a £20 victim surcharge. Melissa Sharp was handed a 12-month conditional discharge, and ordered to pay £50 compensation, £85 costs and a £20 victim surcharge.
