Minicab driver ends up driving into entrance of station after alleged threats

Steve Kenton

Tube travellers had a bit of a surprise on Monday 24 June when a private hire vehicle driver decided to drive through the front entrance of a station and park his vehicle.

The unnamed minicab driver claimed that he drove into the front entrance of Barking Station after allegedly being threatened by his customer at approximately 12.20am.

The incident sparked derision on social media, with London Traffic Watch saying on Twitter: "We're not sure if @TfLTPH have advised their licensed minicab drivers that it's ok to drive onto the concourse at Barking Station, but drive onto the concourse they have #RoadSafety #VisionZeroLDN".

Barking and Dagenham Post reported that officers were called to Barking station after reports of a minicab being driven and parked on the station concourse, with the driver claiming that he had been threatened and entered the station for his own safety.

Police made no arrests.

It isn't the first time a private hire driver has tried to drive directly onto a station concourse. In February 2017 the Evening Standard reported how an Uber driver attempted to drive down a flight of steps into Liverpool Street Station.
