Metropolitan Police appeal for witnesses following serious minicab collision in Hackney East London

Michael Murphy

Metropolitan Police are appealing for witnesses following a serious collision in Homerton, East London, that has left a man with serious injuries. Police were called at 05:20hrs on Sunday 30 June to reports of a collision at Wick Lane, Hackney.

Officers and London Ambulance Service attended. At the scene, a black coloured BMW X6 had been in a collision with a mini-cab. The occupants of the BMW fled the scene immediately following the collision. The driver of the mini-cab and his three passengers all sustained injuries. All were taken to east London hospitals where the passengers’ injuries are not life threatening. The driver of the mini-cab sustained a serious head injury. His condition is serious, but stable. Detective Sergeant Jose Qureshi of the Met’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “I appeal to the driver of the BMW to present himself at a police station at the earliest opportunity. There was no consideration given to those injured in the other car, I urge you to do the right thing now and come forward. “In the meantime, I am particularly keen to hear from anyone who has dash-cam footage, who witnessed this incident or who can name the suspects. All information will be treated in the strictest confidence, and if necessary, can be provided anonymously to Crimestoppers.” Anyone with footage or information is asked to call the Serious Collision Investigation Unit witness line on 0208 597 4874, Tweet @MetCC or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. Police traveling in the opposite direction to the BMW passed the vehicle and manoeuvred to follow it with a view to stopping it. Before they could attempt to indicate for the BMW to stop, it had turned a corner and subsequently collided with the mini cab. As is standard procedure, the Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards has been notified.
