Taxi driver Richardson looks set for boxing title shot after seeing off tough Russian

Perry Richardson

London taxi driver and super welterweight boxer, Dean Richardson, improved his record to 10-0 with 7 knockouts after stopping replacement opponent Sergey Martisyan at York Hall on 29 June.   After Nathan Graham pulled out of their final Southern Area title eliminator bout due to personal reasons, Richardson faced the game Russian over 6 rounds at the iconic boxing venue. Martisyan came out from the first bell fast and looked to bully Richardson, but the South Ruislip man found his rhythm and started landing sharp jabs.

By the third round, Martisyan was tiring and bleeding from the right eye with Richardson starting to land his left hand.   Late in the 4th round, Richardson landed a counter left hook, which had his opponent staggering into the ropes. The referee jumped in as Richardson unleashed a flurry of punches with a succession of three left hands landing to the Russian’s head. With the Southern Area super welterweight title being competed for between the holder Sean Robinson and challenger John Brennan immediately after Richardson’s bout, the 23 year old kept a close eye on the fight.   Robinson kept the belt after fighting to a 95-95 points draw. Dean is now hoping to be put in for a shot at the belt in his next fight giving him a chance to win his first professional title.
