Derby cabbie locks racist thug in vehicle until police arrive

A thug who racially abused a cabbie in Derby was locked in the vehicle by the driver until the police arrived, after he subjected the driver to racial abuse. Roy Greasly, from Mackworth, was left trapped in the vehicle, unable to escape his fate, while the driver stood calmly outside.
Greasly appeared before Southern Derbyshire magistrates, who heard how he started to swear at the driver when asked for the address of his destination after a night out in Derby city centre.
The victim was able to exit the car and call the police, leaving Greasly locked inside.
When the police arrived, they had to drag the 32-year-old into the police car. As reported in the Derbyshire Live, prosecuting, Lynn Bickley, said the driver had worked as a cabbie in Derby for 14 years. She said: "He picked up a passenger outside a city centre bar. The male had to be put in his car by others. He was placed in the back seat and asked to take him to Mackworth. "The male was this defendant and was quiet until they got to Prince Charles Avenue when he asked him for the address. "He said 'you're a f****** taxi driver, you should know where you are going’.” Ms Bickley added: "He used racist language towards the taxi driver and told him to keep going. "The driver manages to get out the car and locks the defendant inside."
Greasly denied being racist towards the driver but also admitted not remembering anything. Greasly pleaded guilty to racially aggravated common assault. The chair of the bench said: "We need to know more about you. Before you leave today if you talk to probation service a report will be prepared. "In the mean time you will be given unconditional bail." Greasly will appear at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates' Court later this month for sentencing, following a probation report.
