Woman riding e-scooter tragically dies in London lorry crash
A woman travelling on an electric scooter died at the scene of a crash involving a lorry in south-west London today. The Metropolitan Police were called to the incident at 08:36hrs to reports of an electric scooter having been in a collision with a lorry at Queenstown Road junction with Battersea Park Road SW8.
Officers and London Ambulance Service attended. According to police sources, a woman in her 30s had suffered serious injuries and was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
Enquiries are underway to notify next of kin and there are currently no arrests at this early stage. Roads in the area were closed for most of the morning, whilst officers completed on the scene investigations. The junction was redesigned by Transport for London and Wandsworth Council to incorporate segregated raised kerb lanes for cyclists in 2015. However, concerns surrounding the new layout have been raised. Last year a cyclist was hit by a bin lorry and tragically killed. E-scooters are currently illegal to use on public roads. That also includes using the vehicle on pavements and in cycle lanes.
