Cabbie hit in the face with gun during late night robbery

A Belfast taxi driver was left injured after being hit across the face with a pistol during a late night robbery.

The driver had picked up two men and a woman at around 12.30am, Thursday 18, in the Ballymena Road area and took them to Junction One.

On arrival at their destination, one of the men pulled out a firearm and demanded money before striking the cabbie across the face with the pistol. All three passengers then ran from the vehicle. As reported in the Belfast Telegraph, a short time later reports of a break in at a burger van in the Springfarm area and criminal damage at a shop on the Ballymena Road were received and a 20-year-old man was arrested under suspicion of a range of offences. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Reducing Offending Unit in 101, quoting reference 45 18/07/19.
