Couple left shocked after Leeds private hire driver demanded cleaning cost after woman's waters

A private hire driver in Leeds allegedly demanded a woman to cough up a cleaning bill after her waters broke when she went into labour in the back of his vehicle. Dana Harrison, 23, ordered a car from local firm RoadRunners, when she felt labour pains.

On route to the hospital Dana’s waters broke and she began to give birth. According to Dana’s partner, Aiden Ibbotson, 23, the PHV driver took a longer route than necessary to the hospital even though Dana was in a desperate bid to get there as quickly as possible. On arrival, Dana was reportedly asked if she was going to clean the car, at a cost of £50. According to a report in the Yorkshire Evening Post, midwives were left shocked at the driver’s request. Dana eventually gave the driver £30 for the cleaning of his vehicle before being rushed into hospital. Aiden, who was away fishing at the time, said he couldn’t believe the driver demanded extra money on top of the fare, and pointed out that the fare was already higher than it should’ve been because of the longer route. Aiden said he has tried to speak to someone at RoadRunners to find out who the driver was, but the company will not release the man’s details. However they have apologised for the incident. Aiden and Dana have been left furious with the incident but said they have welcomed a healthy baby boy named Blake into the world.
