Uber customers charged 100 TIMES MORE than advertised fare during tech glitch

A technical glitch hit US Uber customers as complaints of users being charged 100 TIMES more than the advertised fare price surfaced. Several passengers using the ride-hailing service vented their frustrations on Twitter.
One user said on social media: “Hey @uber, you charged my wife $9672 for a ride that was listed as $96.72, and there’s no way to get in touch with you.”

Another tweet come from Mark Smith, the social and operations director at the Washington Post, who said: “This happened to me tonight. Uber charged me $1,238.00 for my trip home, even though the receipt says $12.38. “Among the lessons: Don’t link Uber to your debit card. That money was immediately pulled from my checking account and is still not restored. It could take more than a day for Chase to restore it.”

The problem is said to have affected users in Washington and San Diego.
Uber responded to one of their passengers saying: “There was a known issue that caused your authorization hold to be very high. Our team has already fixed this issue. Thank you so much for your patience.”
