Mandatory CCTV proposals welcomed by cab trade representatives in Leeds

Proposals which would make CCTV a mandatory requirement in taxis in Leeds have been broadly welcomed by industry representatives.
The proposals were made at a meeting of Leeds City Council officials where they agreed to set up a working group to look into the issues surrounding the plans.

Trade representatives have agreed to support the proposals as they believe it would enhance both drivers and public safety.
However, during the meeting, one council official remarked that all sorts of issues could cause the desirability of the proposals to be questioned, such as passenger and driver confidence.
According to Leeds Live, points were also raised in regard to the legality surrounding CCTV installation and the storage of data.
A report on the proposals is expected to be produced later in the year.
