Leeds private hire driver allegedly charged 91 year old woman fare twice because he said he was real

Private hire firm, Amber Cars, of Leeds, has launched an investigation into claims that a 91-year-old grandmother was deliberately charged twice for a fare by one of their drivers who said he asked for the cash because he was really hungry and had no food. The grandson of the alleged victim, Chris Spencer, says his grandmother's trip was already paid for by the NHS, which the driver knew, yet he asked for cash on top to pay again. 

Once the journey from Leeds General Infirmary to Guiseley was completed on Tuesday 13 August, the driver allegedly 'took advantage' of his 91-year-old passenger, Mr Spencer claimed.  As reported on Leeds Live, his grandmother then agreed to hand over around £20 in total.  Mr Spencer said: "The fact this man has taken advantage of an elderly women is extremely disconcerting, if he has done this to her I dread to think how many people he has spun the same sad tale to."

He also contacted Amber Cars to inform them of their driver's alleged behaviour.  In a tweet back to Mr Spencer, the company wrote: "Thank you for bringing this to our attention. Please be assured that we are looking into this as a matter of priority and a full investigation will be launched."
