Permanent security barriers outside Manchester United's stadium creating problems for cabbies

The installation of permanent security barriers at Manchester United's stadium has led to a raft of complaints from taxi drivers.

A taxi rank which is used to service the stadium has now become "invisible" to the public due to the rank, which was previously right in front of the ground, being relocated to outside Hotel Football.

Drivers have also raised concerns over the lack of signage informing the public where the rank is now situated and as to the order the cabs are ranking in.

A source at the club told The Messenger that the taxi rank will eventually be reconfigured with the same number of spaces made available on the original rank at Sir Matt Busby Way.

It is believed that taxi trade representatives have been in discussion with Trafford Council but the cabbies are not happy, with one driver claiming that the council have not helped them at all.

A spokesperson for Trafford Council stated that taxi trade representatives have been involved in the development of the scheme and when completed, a smaller rank will still be available near Hotel Football and the other existing rank on Sir Matt Busby Way near to Railway Road will have been extended, with signage for the public directing them to both ranks.
