A Glasgow cabbie was subjected to a terrifying attack when he was set upon by knife wielding men.

Sajid Javed, 36, suffered stab and slash wounds to his head including a badly severed ear.

He now says he has been left too terrified to return to his job.

Mr Javed was assaulted yards from his home in Govan, Glasgow, on Sunday and is now recovering at home after emergency treatment at Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

Two men have been charged with assaulting Sajid, causing severe injury and permanent disfigurement.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland added: "Two men aged 20 and 21 have been arrested and charged in connection with a serious assault in Vicarfield Street, Govan. "A man was taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where he received treatment."

The Crown Office confirmed that two men appeared in private at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Monday. They made no plea and were remanded in custody pending another court date.

According to a report in the Daily Record, medics said it would be several weeks before Mr Javed would be able to work again.
