Steve Kenton

A Peterborough taxi driver has been spared a driving ban despite accruing 12 points on his driving licence.

57 year old Mohammad Irfan, of Nursery Close, Peterborough, was caught travelling at 70mph on the northbound carriageway of Bourges Boulevard, which carries a 40mph speed limit.

The speeding offence took place at 4.45am on 30 December 2018.

Irfan pleaded guilty to speeding when he appeared at Peterborough Magistrates Court. As a result he had his licence endorsed with six points. However his licence already carried six points on it from other offences and as a result reached 12 points - which ordinarily carries a driving ban.

However Irfan told the court that a disqualification would cause undue hardship on his family.

He stated that as a result of diabetes, hepatitis and heart disease he would find it impossible to obtain other employnent.

The Peterborough Telegraph reported that Irfan avoided a driving ban and was issued with six points on his licence, he was also fined £200, and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £30 as well as costs of £100.
