Tyre brace used after customer struggles to pay

A cab driver has faced Nottingham Crown Court after attacking a customer with a tyre brace.

52 year old Mohammed Satter, of Holbeck Road, Nottingham attacked the customer on 23 March of this year. 

The attack, which was partially caught on camera, took place after the victim had drunk ten pints of beer during a stag weekend celebration.

Caroline Bradley, prosecuting, told the court that the passenger had left the party to return to his hotel, however upon realising that he had no money he asked the defendant if he could pay by card. Satter told the victim that he didn't take card payments. The victim then asked to be taken to a cashpoint and was driven to a Tesco Express service station on Nuthall Road. Ms Bradley explained to the court how the victim had difficulty getting cash out of the machine, which made the defendant angry. The garage's CCTV showed Satter taking a tyre brace from the boot of his vehicle, and the complainant’s next memory was of being hit across the leg, knees and hip. Leanne Summers, mitigating, said that Satter regretted his actions, explaining that the father of three had lost his licence because of the case and had to remortgage his house as a result. Nottinghamshire Live reported that Judge Rosalind Coe QC handed down a four month prison sentence, suspended for a year, to Satter, who had pleaded guilty to assault by beating and having an offensive weapon. He was also ordered to do 120 hours community work.
