Monkton man's mad moment missing court date for bilking offence

A man who missed his court appearance has been fined after making off without payment for a taxi journey.

23 year old Macauley Dennis Richard Breen, of Colley Court, Monkton, appeared at Haverfordwest magistrates court on Monday, 30 September.

Breen had failed to appear at his previous trial, where he was found guilty of dishonestly making off without payment after taking a taxi from Haverfordwest to Pembroke on 27 December 2018.

Linda Baker, prosecuting, stated that Breen wanted to be dropped off at the service station, he left the taxi and then made off without paying his £27 fare.

Mike Kelleher, defending, stated that Breen had been out in Haverfordwest and was drunk. He took a taxi back to Pembroke and had an arguement with the driver over the cost of the fare. He added that Breen had not appeared at his trial because he was of the view that the matter had already been dealt with. He also thought that the hearing was on a different date. Magistrates fined Breen £80 and ordered him to pay £157.80 in costs, compensation and a surcharge. Image Source: Pxhere
