Man left with serious head injuries after an argument over a private hire vehicle turned violent

Surrey Police are asking for witnesses to come forward after a serious assault in Guildford town centre in the early hours of Saturday 12 October, left a man with serious head injuries. The assault occurred on Park Street, close to the premises of the Guildford Charcoal Grill, at around 02:20 in the morning following a dispute around a pre-booked taxi.

DCI Mark Chapman, who is overseeing the investigation, said: “We are dealing with a serious assault and would to like to speak to anyone who witnessed this incident, or may be able to assist us in identifying anyone involved.

"As the attack took place as people were leaving the town centre after their nights out, somebody may well have seen what happened.

"The victim has been left with serious injuries, so we are asking for any information that might help our investigation. We currently have one man in custody in connection with this investigation. “Due to the location of this incident, on the one-way system, we are asking drivers of taxis and private vehicles with dashcams to come forward if you were driving past the area between 02:15 and 02:30 as you may have captured footage without necessarily being aware of the assault itself.” If you witnessed the incident or have any information (including dashcam footage) which could help with enquiries, please call 101, quoting crime reference number PR/ 45190108025.

If you do not wish to leave your name, please call the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
