BP Chargemaster wins top award for EV charging innovation
BP Chargemaster has won Best Tech Innovation in the Parkers New Car Awards 2020, which recognise the best cars and associated products for new car buyers. The Tech Innovation category, in association with Parkers’ sister title, CAR, looked at the technologies that are taking cars into the future, with BP Chargemaster’s innovation in rapid charging beating new technology from two major car manufacturers.
The award highlighted the developments in rapid and ultra-fast charging on the Polar network, in particular the rollout of ultra-fast chargers on BP forecourts, which will help to reduce dwell times for the latest electric cars, as well as the addition of contactless payment on all new rapid and ultra-fast chargers. The growth of the Polar network is now being led by Sharon Newton and her team, with Andrew Stead having played a pivotal role in the expansion of the rapid charging network prior to, and immediately after BP’s acquisition of Chargemaster. Sharon Newton and Tom Callow joined Parkers journalists Tom Wiltshire and Lawrence Cheung to accept the award at the Polar network charging hub at Milton Keynes Coachway, which remains the largest public rapid charging hub in the country.
