8 private hire vehicles unfit & 3 drivers non-compliant during day of enforcement in City of London

A day of roadside enforcement checks in the City of London saw a number of private hire vehicles and drivers fail to meet compliance regulations.


Joint action by the Metropolitan Police Roads & Transport team, City of London Police and Transport for London, was conduction along the city's Holborn Viaduct.

In total, 8 private hire vehicles were found to be unfit for work purposes, with 3 private hire drivers found to be non-compliant with their licensing regulations.


In addition, 1 hackney carriage taxi was found to be unfit.

In total, 107 trade and non-trade vehicles were stopped by the officers as part of the force's planned activity to support Operation Safer Travel at Night (OP STaN).


In addition to the 12 issues found within the taxi and private hire trade, a number of other offences were logged against non-trade drivers.

One arrest was made after a driver was found to be driving whilst under the influence of drugs. Another was found to be driving with no insurance, with another found to be riding an e-scooter without insurance.


Other offences included defective tyres and speeding.
