Addison Lee has formed a partnership with EV charging firm GRIDSERVE to support the growth of electric private hire services at London Gatwick Airport.
The deal gives Addison Lee drivers access to GRIDSERVE’s charging hub at Gatwick’s South Terminal. The site includes 22 High Power chargers, designed to reduce waiting times and keep services running efficiently for airport transfers.
The location, part of the London Gatwick Electric Forecourt®, also offers off-peak charging rates for professional drivers, as well as access to lounge areas and retail discounts during operating hours of 4.30am to 10pm. Refreshments are available from Costa on site.
Addison Lee drivers will be able to manage charging independently through the GRIDSERVE app while benefiting from group perks, aimed at cutting costs and maintaining performance levels.
GRIDSERVE said the partnership helps balance energy demand through the day by ensuring steady charger use. Addison Lee said the agreement will help streamline its fleet operations around the airport.
Located next to the M23, the Electric Forecourt® offers 30 EV charging bays and is powered by 100% net zero energy. GRIDSERVE and Addison Lee say the setup is helping to meet London Gatwick’s wider sustainability plans by improving the viability of electric transport to and from the airport.
Daniel Kunkel, CEO GRIDSERVE, said: "By combining cost-effective charging with enhanced driver facilities, we're creating a model that benefits everyone – drivers, passengers, our facility and the environment. It is through strong partnerships and working together to ensure that everyone benefits that we can accelerate EV adoption for all. Moving forward, we hope to support more businesses and fleets in this way across our network to tailor solutions that enhance their sustainable operations."
Patrick Gallagher, COO Addison Lee, said: "Charging partnerships like this are key to supporting our drivers with reliable and cost-effective charging at the locations where they need it most. This collaboration allows us to offer more sustainable London Gatwick transfers while supporting our driver community with tangible benefits."
Cedric Laurier, Chief Technical Officer London Gatwick, said: “This is a great initiative from GRIDSERVE, enhancing sustainable travel options, supporting London Gatwick’s sustainability goals and providing an excellent service for the local community and businesses.”
