London’s taxi drivers have been invited to pay their respects to His Royal Highness, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, at Admiralty Arch on the day of the planned funeral.

Prime Investors and Admiralty Arch have requested the presence of London’s cabbies at the iconic arches located on The Mall following a long standing relationship with London’s black cabs.

A spokesperson from Admiralty Arch said in a statement: “Following the sad news of the passing of His Royal Highness, The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh on Friday 9th April 2021, Prime Investors Capital and Admiralty Arch are inviting London Black Cabs to gather at the east-end of The Mall and in the crescents of Admiralty Arch on the day of the funeral, Saturday 17th April 2021.

“This invitation is inspired by the long-standing relationship Admiralty Arch holds with both Buckingham Palace and the Licensed Taxi Drivers’ Association (LTDA) and we would therefore like to unite with you in joining the nation’s tributes for Prince Philip.

“Once parked, drivers are welcome up on the roof of Admiralty Arch for the national one-minute silence taking place at 3pm to pay their respects.”

The invite goes on to encourage drivers to arrive on The Mall from 2pm and make their way to the roof of Admiralty Arch via the Admiralty Place entrance from 2.30pm, with departure after the one-minute silence.

The invite comes following the sight of hundreds of traditional black cabs lined up outside Buckingham Palace and along The Mall paying their respects to HRH Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh on Friday 9 April.
