Appeal for help after Nottingham taxi driver threatened with metal pole during attempted robbery
Nottinghamshire Police are appealing for witnesses after a taxi driver was threatened with a metal pole during an attempted robbery.
The 41-year-old had gone to pick up a customer in Bracebridge Drive, Bilborough, when a group of men approached his vehicle and asked to be taken to Long Eaton.
The driver said he couldn’t fit them all in and suggested they call for a bigger taxi.
He told police the group became aggressive and threatened to hurt him unless he gave them a lift.
One of the men then produced a metal pole and demanded he hand over cash. Fearing for his safety, the taxi driver quickly drove off.
The metal pole was then thrown towards the taxi but missed. The incident happened shortly before 1am on Tuesday 29 June.
Police are treating it as an attempted robbery and are urging witnesses to come forward.
Police Constable Scott Rossington, who is leading the investigation, said: “This was a frightening ordeal for the taxi driver and we are doing everything we can to catch those responsible.
“Officers are reviewing CCTV in a bid to identify any individuals involved.
“Anyone with information which may help the investigation is asked to contact Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident 26 of 29 June.”
