Armed police swoop in on private hire car passenger after shooting in Cheshire 


Armed police surrounded a private hire vehicle in a Bromborough, Wirral, B&M carpark to arrest a man, who was travelling as a passenger in the car, linked to a violent shooting.

Officers swooped on the car, leaving the driver looking terrified, on Sunday afternoon as the vehicle started to exit the area on Tebay Retail Park.

Officers could be heard shouting instructions at the driver to stay in the car as they arrested a 26-year-old passenger.

One eye witness who managed to snap the dramatic incident on her phone, told Taxipoint: "I really felt for the driver. He was clearly shook up. I hope he's ok."

A second man, also 26-years-old, was arrested on Sunday.

Both arrests were made in connection to an incident which took place on Saturday when a man was shot in the leg on Enfield Road in Ellesmere Port.

The shooting took place at around 2.25pm before the victim was rushed to hospital for treatment to his injury.

In a statement, the force said: "Police investigating a firearm being discharged in Ellesmere Port have arrested two men in-connection with the incident.

"Both men, aged 26, have been arrested at separate addresses, one in the Merseyside area and the other in Cheshire for firearms offences and are now in custody.

"Searches are ongoing at several locations.

"At 2.25pm on Saturday 30 November a man was shot in the leg on Enfield Road and taken to hospital where he remains in a stable condition.

"Police would like to thank the community for their support following this incident."
