Arrest made after cabbie ‘punched and racially abused’ by passenger in Warrington


Detectives are appealing for witnesses and video footage after a man was assaulted at Warrington Bank Quay Station.


At around 10.39pm on Friday 12 January, officers responded to reports that a taxi driver had been assaulted on Parker Street, outside Bank Quay train station in Warrington.

On arrival, officers found that the taxi driver, a 33-year-old man, had been punched and racially abused by a passenger.


A 36-year-old man from the Newton Le Willows area, has been arrested in connection with the incident on suspicion of assault and has since been released on conditional bail.


Enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances of the incident, with officers appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

Police Constable Stephen Wolstenholme, of Warrington LPU, said: “This investigation is in its early stages and we’re doing all we can to establish exactly what has taken place.


“Initial enquiries suggest that this was a targeted incident, and as part of our investigation we’re keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident take place, along with anyone with any video or dashcam footage.
