East Dunbartonshire Council seeks public and industry feedback on two preferred proposals for a town centre taxi stance, with consultation closing on 20 March 2026.
A public consultation has launched on plans to introduce a formal taxi rank in Bishopbriggs town centre, as East Dunbartonshire Council moves forward with two preferred options following earlier engagement with drivers and operators.
Members of the public and stakeholders are being invited to review the proposals and complete a short survey via the Bishopbriggs Taxi Stance consultation page before the deadline at midnight on Friday 20 March 2026. The process follows consultation with taxi drivers and operators in October 2025, which narrowed four potential locations to two.
Councillor Gordan Low, Leader of East Dunbartonshire Council, said: “I hope as many people as possible can take the time to find out more and have a say. All feedback received will help to inform future plans.”
The council confirmed that discussions were held with Morrisons in relation to redevelopment of the town centre. However, it was informed that a designated taxi rank within the supermarket car park is not feasible due to limited space. An informal rank previously operated between Morrisons and St Matthew’s Church, but this was fenced off following changes to the road layout.
That area is now being redeveloped to create a new Civic Space as part of the Bishopbriggs Town Centre Regeneration project, funded through the Glasgow City Region City Deal. The council said it is not possible to incorporate a taxi rank into those plans, requiring alternative options to be explored.
The consultation forms part of a wider review of taxi infrastructure across the authority. Proposals for ranks in Kirkintilloch and Milngavie were approved by the Council’s Policy and Resources Committee in November 2024, with the associated Traffic Regulation Orders progressing. Options for a taxi stance in Bearsden are also under consideration.
