BP Chargemaster provides free EV charging for Uber drivers during COVID-19 pandemic

Perry Richardson

BP Chargemaster has agreed to provide support to electric vehicle drivers using the Uber app who are transporting NHS staff during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Uber Medics was a new product launched on the Uber app which provides a 25% discount on rides to NHS staff and employees of care home organisations until mid-July.

BP Chargemaster will add the equivalent credit of up to three quarters of a million miles of journeys across all qualifying driver accounts. These drivers can then redeem the credit against their Polar Plus account’s electricity costs and is available to new and current Polar Plus account holders.

This agreement comes after the electric vehicle charging network struck a similar deal with UK black cab apps, FREE NOW and Gett, who had also created a special booking option; NHS Heroes. They are offering a reduced fare for NHS workers, allowing them to get to hospitals quickly and safely. NHS workers, including front line workers and primary care service workers, can use the black cab apps for a reduced rate to and from work.
