A Hull man has been jailed after holding a taxi driver at knifepoint for over 40 minutes during a violent robbery earlier this year.

Dale Allison, aged 43, appeared at Hull Crown Court on Thursday 2 October where he pleaded guilty to robbery and criminal damage. He was sentenced to seven years and two months in prison.

The incident took place shortly after midnight on Saturday 22 March 2025. Allison ordered a taxi to take him to an address in Hessle. During the journey, he pulled out a knife and began threatening the driver while demanding money and personal belongings.

Under duress, the taxi driver handed over around £300 in cash, along with bank cards and a driving licence. Allison then instructed the driver to divert to a nearby car park off Hessle Road.

Once at the car park, Allison demanded the driver get into the boot of the vehicle. He then attempted to steal another taxi that was parked nearby. However, the vehicle stalled and he fled the scene.

Both taxi drivers attempted to follow Allison in their vehicles to record evidence. During the chase, it was reported that Allison used the knife to slash the tyres of one of the cars before escaping on foot.

Police investigations led to his arrest and subsequent prosecution.

Detective Inspector Gary Mathews said: “Allison is a violent and dangerous individual who will now face the consequences of his actions behind bars.

“He showed no remorse and continued to deny his actions, insisting that both taxi drivers attempted to rob him instead, and the knife was not his.

“I would like to commend the bravery of the victims on that day for their actions and their swift response to help us identify Allison.

“Whilst this sentence will not take away the trauma and fear that the victim has to now live with daily, I hope it will provide some reassurance that this type of offending will not be tolerated, and we will always do everything we can to hold those responsible accountable for their actions.

“Nobody should have to go to work and feel unsafe.”
