Brighton Drug Bust: Tactical Unit snags dealer in back of taxi in undercover operation
Brighton's Tactical Firearms Unit (TFU) officers apprehended a suspected drug dealer from the back of a taxi, following a series of covert patrols.
Fiorent Muharremi aroused suspicion among plainclothes officers due to his peculiar behavior in the Clifton Road and Clifton Hill area on 7 February.
Muharremi's brief taxi ride, covering a mere 100 meters before exiting the vehicle for a second time, prompted the officers to intervene. The subsequent search led to the discovery of cash alongside 30 bags of class A and B drugs, culminating in Muharremi's arrest on charges of possession with intent to supply.
Brighton CID led the investigation, which saw 20-year-old Muharremi, a car valet with no fixed abode, facing charges for his involvement with class A and B drugs. His admission of both charges at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on 8 February resulted in his remand in custody.
Muharremi is set for sentencing at Lewes Crown Court on 7 March.
TFU Inspector Oli Fisher said: “Our highly-trained officers conduct a variety of duties above and beyond armed response, and regularly carry out patrols to assist our colleagues across the force.
“This includes proactive operations to help disrupt the supply of drugs, which cause so much harm in our communities.”
