British Transport Police (BTP) teamed up with City of York Council to provide safety checks on taxis and minicabs working in the area.

According to officers, a number of private hire vehicles (PHVs) were reported for ‘various deflects’ and have as a result received fixed penalties.

BTP North Yorkshire said via social media: “We teamed up with City of York taxi licensing today at the station. Private hires and Hackneys were stopped and examined with a number of private hires from the West Yorkshire area issued with fixed penalties for various defects.”

In a further post, officers from the BTP added: “The drivers have had their taxi licenses temporarily suspended until the vehicles are re-examined and deemed safe to operate! More of these operations to come!”
