A Burnley private hire driver has been allowed to keep his licence following a review hearing, but councillors issued a formal written warning over speeding and breaches of licence conditions.

Burnley Borough Council’s Taxi Licensing Sub-Committee ruled that “Mr SM was a fit and proper person to continue to hold a Private Hire Driver’s Licence” during a meeting held on 29 April.

The committee said the driver would receive a formal written warning under the council’s Taxi Licensing Policy. Members stressed “the importance of refraining from speeding as it was inappropriate and undermined the safety of the public” and also highlighted the need to comply with licence conditions.

Councillors also warned that any further motoring offences brought before the sub-committee could lead to more serious consequences for the driver’s licence status.
