A Birmingham cabbie with passengers on board was clocked doing a whooping 89mph on a 50mph stretch of the A38 by police officers yesterday.

The Central Motorway Police Group (CMPG) captured the speeding cabbie using a speed gun on the A38M Expressway. Officers using the handheld device can record a motorist’s speed from over 600 meters away.

A police unit further on from where the speeding driver was first seen, stopped the vehicle to discover the cab was carrying passengers at the time.

According to police sources, 45 drivers were reported for speeding in the area in just one hour.

A spokesperson from the CMPG said via social media: “The view from the speed gun today on the A38M Aston Expressway, 45 drivers reported for exceeding the 50mph limit in just an hour, the highest was 89... a taxi with a fare on board!!

“At 89mph a crossover collision impact speed would be close to 140, it would be devastating”
