A cab has ended up driving straight into a canal after the driver followed dodgy sat nav directions in Eccles, Greater Manchester.

The Roads Policing Unit for Greater Manchester Police were called to rescue the embarrassed driver, whose vehicle was hanging over the bank of Bridgewater Canal on 11 April.

A spokesperson for the police said via their official Twitter account: "This taxi was rescued by RPU West. A relief in Eccles after the driver followed his sat nav straight into the Bridgewater Canal.

"Very lucky escape for the embarrassed driver."

TaxiPoint has approached Greater Manchester Police to find out if the driver was a taxi or private hire driver.
