London cab drivers John Dillane, Daren Parr and Lyndsey Lockhart met the High Commissioner to Tanzania ahead of their fundraising challenge to climb Mount Meru and Mount Kilimanjaro in early 2022.

On 2 December, London cab drivers Daren Parr, John Dillane and Lyndsey Lockhart enjoyed a cup of famous Tanzanian coffee with the High Commissioner to Tanzania Her Excellency Asha Rose Migiro and talked about their fundraising challenge to climb Mount Meru and Mount Kilimanjaro in February 2022.

Daren Parr, London Cab driver and member of fundraising group Cabbies do Kilimanjaro, said: “We were honoured to be invited to meet Her Excellency Asha Rose Migiro, the High Commissioner to Tanzania. We had lots to talk about as Asha originates from a tribe that lives not far from Kilimanjaro and she told us of how she had always enjoyed the view of the tallest mountain in Africa from her village.

“Tanzania is such a beautiful country and has many breath-taking World Heritage Sites including the spectacular Ngorongoro Crater and we can’t wait to return to this amazing country that we have fallen in love with.”

Cab drivers John and Daren first climbed Kilimanjaro in 2019 and after an agonising wait for Covid restrictions to lift they are heading back to Tanzania to climb Mount Meru first before being joined by the rest of the Cabbies do Kilimanjaro team to climb Mount Kilimanjaro.

After the challenge, to raise money for the London Taxi Drivers’ Charity for Children and a Tanzanian Children’s Community Project, the cabbies will be going on safari and hope to have a balloon safari and visit the historic Kilwa Kisiwani Island before enjoying a well-earned bit of rest and relaxation on Zanzibar, where no doubt a few bottles of the famous Kilimanjaro beer will be consumed in celebration.

John Dillane, London Cab driver and member of fundraising group Cabbies do Kilimanjaro, said: “It was a very enjoyable afternoon with Her Excellency who is a big supporter of Cabbies do Kilimanjaro and admirer of the London Taxi trade. We hope to get the team of Taxi drivers to the summit of Kilimanjaro on 10 Feb 2022 and show the world just what London Cabbies are made of.

“The challenge will raise some much-needed funds for both the London Taxi Drivers’ Charity for Children and a Tanzanian Children’s Community Project.”
