CABSHIELD RETURNS: Patons Insurance revives iconic taxi brand

Patons Insurance has brought back the Cabshield brand, a name that was once synonymous with trusted taxi insurance across the UK.

Cabshield, which originally launched in 1989 under Shield Insurance Consultants, built a strong reputation over three decades, becoming one of the leading providers in the industry.

Originally based in Dundee and founded by Duncan Simpson, Cabshield quickly carved out a niche, focusing solely on taxi insurance from 2004. As its reputation grew, so did its operations, leading to a larger office space in Dundee and a dedicated team of 27 staff. The brand was well-known for its reliability, with taxi drivers returning year after year, and new customers coming through word-of-mouth recommendations.

The brand's journey took a significant turn in 2019 when it was acquired by Patons Insurance. This acquisition brought together the expertise of both firms, strengthening the service offered to taxi drivers nationwide. The combined team has continued to deliver tailored insurance solutions, ensuring that drivers can focus on their business without the hassle of navigating complex insurance details.

With the success of this partnership, Patons Insurance has now decided to officially revive the Cabshield brand. The move recognises the brand's strong legacy and its ongoing popularity among drivers who value the specialised service it provides.

Patons Insurance managing director Darren Roberts said: “Cabshield is a well-known name in the taxi industry that is trusted by drivers.

“For years, it has established itself as a reliable taxi insurance broker and drivers know the levels of expertise and service they can expect.

“Following any acquisition, people often refer to a business by its previous name until they get used to the new one, but the Cabshield name has never gone away. We still have some of the original Cabshield staff as part of our team today and for the past five years, drivers have continued to call the original Cabshield number and search for the website online. The name also appears in dozens of social media recommendations for taxi insurance.

“Cabshield is a name drivers know and trust and we are committed to delivering the same standards of service so it made sense to give it the prominence drivers expect and make it easier for them to find when taking out or renewing their insurance.”
