CAN’T STOP THERE: Private hire vehicle ticketed for Zig Zag parking in Erdington
A private hire vehicle in Erdington has been caught parked illegally on white zig zag lines, prompting a warning from local police about the consequences of such violations.
The incident, which involved a Toyota Corolla parked near a pedestrian crossing, highlights the strict regulations surrounding these road markings.
Parking on white zig zag lines is prohibited under UK law. These markings are typically found near pedestrian crossings and are designed to keep the area clear of obstructions, ensuring drivers have a clear view of pedestrians and vice versa. Stopping or parking on these lines is not only illegal but also poses a safety risk.
Penalties can include a fixed penalty notice, a fine, and 3 points on the driver’s licence. In cases where the vehicle poses a significant hazard, it may also be towed.
Erdington police officers confirmed that several other tickets were issued in the same location on the same evening.
An Erdington West Midlands Police spokesperson said: “Today Erdington officers have seen this taxi (private hire hire vehicle) parked illegally, a ticket will be sent in the post.
“Numerous more tickets issued this evening on top of this in the same location.”
