CheckedSafe has appointed Dr Michael Galvin as its new Non-Executive Chairman, bringing more than four decades of experience across the road transport, taxi and private hire sectors to its board as the fleet compliance technology provider looks to accelerate its next phase of growth.
The appointment comes as the company continues to expand its digital compliance and safety management offering across the transport sector.
CheckedSafe said the move reinforces its commitment to stronger corporate governance, strategic expansion and continued innovation as demand for digital compliance tools grows. The business currently serves more than 1,500 customers and provides technology designed to help organisations manage vehicle inspections, driver licence checks and compliance requirements.
Dr Galvin joins the board with extensive commercial and board-level experience gained over more than 40 years in the road transport, taxi and private hire industries. He also recently became a Commissioner at the Independent Transport Commission, contributing to discussions on the future direction of transport policy.
In his new role, Dr Galvin will work alongside the board and executive leadership team to support the company’s long-term strategy as it expands into new markets. He said: “I am delighted to be joining CheckedSafe as Non-Executive Chairman at such an exciting stage of the company’s development.
“CheckedSafe has built an outstanding reputation for innovation, compliance excellence and improving safety outcomes across the transport sector. Its products play an important role in helping organisations ensure the safety of their teams, drivers, road users and wider business operations, while supporting compliance with legislation and regulation.
“The business has established strong foundations and a clear strategic direction. I look forward to working closely with the Board and Management Team to support the company’s continued growth and expansion into new markets and opportunities.”
CheckedSafe co-founders Gary Hawthorne and Darran Harris said Dr Galvin’s knowledge of the transport industry would strengthen the board as the business continues to develop products aimed at improving vehicle and driver safety standards. They added: “We’re delighted to announce the appointment of Dr Michael Galvin as Chairman of the CheckedSafe Board.
“With a career spanning more than 40 years in the road transport, private hire and taxi industries, Dr Galvin brings a wealth of knowledge, leadership and expertise to our Board.
“Safety remains the number one priority for the public, employers and licensing authorities across the UK, Europe and global markets. CheckedSafe’s products and services empower fleet professionals and operators to strengthen their service offering while helping to ensure compliance with the highest vehicle and driver safety standards.
“We look forward to the next chapter with Dr Galvin’s expertise and support as we continue to drive innovation and raise safety standards across the transport industry.”
The appointment also reflects the company’s wider ambitions beyond its established commercial fleet customer base. CheckedSafe said it is increasing its presence within the taxi and private hire sectors, offering digital compliance, vehicle safety and operational efficiency tools to operators in those markets.
The move comes at a time when regulatory expectations on transport operators continue to increase, with operators facing growing demands around vehicle safety, driver compliance and record keeping. Digital platforms capable of automating inspection processes and maintaining audit trails are becoming an increasingly important part of fleet management across both commercial and passenger transport sectors.
