The City of Westminster's efforts to crack down on pedicabs has achieved substantial success over the past year, resulting in 40 convictions, detailed records of over 75 drivers, and almost £30,000 in fines.

The City of Westminster, which is renowned for its iconic landmarks and bustling tourist attractions, has sadly long been a draw for pedicabs. These three-wheeled bicycle rickshaws, operated by individuals seeking to offer tourists unlicensed rides around the city, have increased in numbers in recent years.

However, concerns about unregulated operations motivated the City of Westminster to launch a comprehensive campaign against pedicabs. The initiative sought to implement strict regulations, enhance transparency, and ensure the safety of both riders and passengers.

Cllr Aicha Less, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Communities, Public Protection and Licensing, said: "Pedicabs operating in Westminster are a stain on our renowned night-time economy and West End.

"City Inspectors do their best to educate visitors of the dangers and support businesses to prevent pedicabs ruining their livelihoods. However, without legislation from the government, operators will always find new way to push the boundaries.

"In the meantime, my message to visitors is if you are out in London, I urge you to get the bus, a black cab, or the underground and get home safe.”
