Taxi licensing checks carried out in Warrington as police join cross-border enforcement operation

Taxi drivers were stopped and inspected in Warrington town centre as part of a joint enforcement operation involving Warrington Police, the force’s Road Traffic Unit, the Special Constabulary and officers from Wolverhampton Council’s Taxi Licensing team.
According to Warrington Police, the operation focused on taxi rank checks to ensure licensed vehicles and drivers were operating safely and within the law. The force said the activity formed part of wider efforts to maintain public safety in the town centre.
The involvement of Wolverhampton Council licensing officers reflects the continued use of cross-border enforcement, with many private hire vehicles working outside the authority that originally licensed them. Licensing officers have powers to inspect vehicles and work alongside police to identify potential breaches of licensing and road traffic legislation.
Warrington Police said: “Several taxi stop checks were carried out to ensure vehicles and drivers were operating safely and legally.”
The force added that officers also engaged with people across Warrington town centre during the evening, “helping to ensure everyone coming into the area is doing so safely and lawfully”, before stating: “We’re committed to keeping Warrington town centre a safe place for everyone.”
