Liverpool City Council took swift action against a private hire vehicle (PHV) driver found operating with a heavily worn and dangerous illegal tyre.

The Liverpool City Council licensed vehicle was spotted by licensing officers dropping off passengers at the Aintree races, its tyre so worn that the cords found under the rubber tread were visible.

Despite the driver’s claim that the tyres had been checked just a week prior, the council promptly decided to report the driver for the offence. Furthermore, the vehicle's licence has been suspended, pending further investigation.

In photos shared by licensing officers, the tyre was shown to be heavily worn across the whole tyre with cords exposed on the outer side of the tyre.

A Liverpool City Council Licensing spokesperson said via social media: “Licensing Officers discovered this LCC PHV dropping passengers off at Aintree races today with an illegal tyre displaying cords it was that worn.

“Driver told the officers he had only checked the tyres a week ago!

“Driver to be reported for the offence and vehicle licence suspended.”
