Corroded suspension and expired licence found during multi-agency joint compliance operation in Redditch

West Mercia Police, Worcestershire Regulatory Services and Wolverhampton City Council licensing officers carried out a joint taxi and private hire vehicle compliance operation across Redditch on Friday evening, according to a post by Redditch Police.
Officers stopped and checked 20 vehicles licensed by Redditch. The police said compliance was generally good and most drivers cooperated with officers.
Nine vehicles received further mechanical inspections. Eight were assessed as safe and well maintained, while one was found with serious safety defects, including a heavily corroded suspension component considered at risk of imminent failure.
The vehicle’s licence will be reviewed, the post said. It did not identify the vehicle or its licence holder, or specify what action may follow the review.
The operation also checked about 20 Wolverhampton-licensed vehicles.
One driver was found to have an expired taxi licence, and Wolverhampton City Council is expected to take appropriate action, according to the police account.
The checks involved police, regulatory services and licensing officers, bringing together enforcement and vehicle inspections across vehicles licensed by two councils.
